A chat with the artist…
Crina Macovei
Romania – 1981
She is approaching the world of art after a degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Management & Marketing, fascinated by the endless possibilities of looking at the world with disenchanted eyes and without filters.
After your studies in psychology, what brought you to the art world?
Art is one of the best ways to approach the most fascinating presence on Earth: the human being.
Through art, you can surprise someone or offer them the opportunity to surprise themselves. Art provides the possibility of taking someone into idyllic worlds, placing them in front of the purest reality, sometimes due to a reading code that overturns the perspective of common sense. Hence, the individual is presented with a new and different point of view, as well as with a distinctive way of thinking. Art allows the artist to stimulate analysis in people, to make one smile, cry, all with the intention of understanding the human being. Art as the stimulus that leads us to empathy, to the awareness of the complexity of human nature, and of the unstoppable process that makes us constantly evolve, is an excellent source of inspiration to create, to paint. Personally, I think it can’t be otherwise.
I’ve always been fascinated by people, sometimes too shy to get closer, I chose to study Psychology to find more answers to my questions. From the answers, however, new questions arose, in a continuous cycle of references and connections.
After graduating and creating a set of “tools” that helped me read the world and understand people, I turned my attention to the field that had always moved me even before I felt the need to have answers: the world of Art. I finally got the answers without filters or censorship, and I felt that when I express myself through art, I can do it in a simple, pure, direct way. Italy is the right land to breathe this feeling. Anyone who has ever vibrate at the call of art, and for some reason, has canceled this ability to connect, living in Italy, can not leave you indifferent. There is no way to “disengage”, to stay away from his stimulus. This is how my “most concrete” contact with the art world matured. I started by taking painting lessons, then came the first proposals, the new challenges, the exhibitions…
Which techniques do you prefer, and which ones did you choose for this exhibition?
The choice of technique is closely related to what I want to express. The oil technique is fascinating, I see it more for artists with a reflective character and I prefer it when I paint portraits and landscapes, or still lifes. For this exhibition instead, I chose acrylic, which is more “spontaneous”, more dynamic and perhaps more modern. The atmosphere in the Vignato’S Dental Studio is modern, communicates novelties in the approach, offers cutting-edge technologies, breadth of mentality, energy and dynamism.
That’s why I chose to create three of the works on display using a more modern technique called “masking tape technique”: Kaleidoscop, Map of Emotions and Encrypted Vibes.
How has the dental environment influenced you in the realization of the exhibited works?
I think it was the feelings of dynamism and energy I perceived from the first moment I entered the studio. Talking about the values that guide its activity has been a stimulus and a challenge for me to confront a world that can sometimes seem far removed from art, even if the artistic passion of doctors is well established.
The people who work there, the dental and secretarial team, also gave me an idea of creativity, possible alternatives, openness, involvement and meticulousness. These sensations have translated into the strong use of color, the dynamism of the shapes and the variation of techniques used, which I believe may well represent the vitality that is breathed in this place. I hope they can stimulate reflection even in patients who attend the studio daily.
